The town of Essex includes Essex Junction, the heartbeat of this beautiful town. The Village of Essex Junction is located in the southwestern part of the Town of Essex. Just east of Burlington, Essex is Vermont's second-largest municipality. Amtrak provides daily service from Essex, operating the Vermonter from St. Albans to Washington, D.C. The town is home to GlobalFoundries, one of the region’s largest employers. Shops and restaurants abound, and residents enjoy many parks and trails. The Champlain Valley Exposition hosts events throughout the year, including the popular Champlain Valley Fair.

Recreation

There is no shortage of parks and playgrounds in Essex. Both Sand Hill Park and Maple Street Park offer playgrounds, picnic areas, ball fields, and community pools. Sand Hill Park also has a spray park to cool off non-swimmers and swimmers alike. Maple Street Park has a shallow pool for the littlest of swimmers and a slide and diving boards for the adventurous.

Indian Brook Park contains 575 acres with a 60 acre reservoir. There are wooded trails surrounding the reservoir that are perfect for hiking, snowshoeing, or horseback riding. Residents take to the reservoir to swim, kayak, and fish. And the picnic areas make Indian Brook a perfect spot to pack a lunch and spend the day.

The Links at Lang Farm and The Essex Country Club are two beautiful 18-hole golf courses which offer great conditions and beautiful views.    

The town of Essex and the village of Essex Junction each have their own Parks and Recreation Departments. Essex residents take full advantage of the classes, camps, and sports leagues offered to all ages.

Activities

The Champlain Valley Exposition is always busy with activities. Their rotating exhibitions and craft shows, flea markets, and animal shows keep residents and visitors entertained all year long. The Expo also is home to several indoor soccer fields and leagues. The Green Mountain Derby Dames compete at the Expo as well. Each August, the Champlain Valley Fair arrives at the Expo for 10 days. This fair is the largest in the state and draws nationally known musicians and performers.

Skateland Vermont is a roller skating rink offering lessons and open skate times. It has a snack bar, Pro Shop, and hosts semi-private parties.

The Essex Family Fun and Entertainment Center is a family friendly, one-stop spot for 18 holes of mini-golf, a driving range, and batting cages.

The Essex Shoppes and Outlets will please shoppers of all types. The retail stores include Phoenix Books, an independent book store and café, children’s clothing stores Carter’s and Osh Kosh B’Gosh, and adult clothing stores Under Armor and Polo Ralph Lauren. Essex Cinemas and their T-Rex Theater are also located at the Outlets as are local grocery stores, workout facilities, and restaurants.

For a day of pampering, The Essex, Vermont’s Culinary Resort and Spa, is the place to be. Spend the day at the full-service spa, enjoy a delicious meal at one of their two restaurants or book a night at one of their luxurious rooms.

Transportation

Several main roads, including VT Route 15, US Route 2 and US Route 2A, run through Essex, intersecting at Five Corners in Essex Junction. Interstate 89 is nearby as is the Burlington International Airport.

Amtrak runs through Essex Junction as well and has a station building and waiting room. The Vermonter train offers services to several destinations.

The Chittenden County Transportation Authority, CCTA, offers routes between Essex Junction and Burlington, from Essex to Williston, and through Essex center. Getting around Chittenden County and beyond is easy when living in Essex.

Education

Essex Town and Essex Junction are both part of the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union. Students living in Essex Town attend Essex Elementary School for grades Pre K-2, Founders Memorial School for grades 3-5, and Essex Middle School for grades 6-8.

The village of Essex Junction offers two elementary schools for grades Pre K-3. Depending on residency, students will attend Hiawatha School or Summit Street School. Village students in grades 4-5 attend Thomas Fleming School and grades 6-8 attend Albert D. Lawton School.

All high school students in both the town and village attend Essex High School for grades 9-12. Essex School District is known for its high quality teachers and schools and excellent academics and athletic programs.

The Center for Technology is located on the Essex High School campus and offers students the chance to enroll in a variety of programs, some including Animation and Web Design, Childhood Education, and Dental Assisting.

The Green Mountain Montessori School is a private school for preschool and kindergarten students.
